Major R3 billion development coming to Joburg next year

 ·10 Oct 2023

The Barlow Park in Sandton is set to launch in early 2024, with affordable housing, retail space and a high school all part of the development.

The project was initially revealed in 2017 with a value of R3 billion. However, following the outbreak of Covid-19 and the changing real estate market, the project only broke ground in July 2022.

Divercity and Atterbury are developing the mixed-use area, with Barloworld, Twin City and the Moolman Group also on board.

Those who regularly drive on the M1 past Sandton may have seen that the project has made significant progress over the last few months.

“In line with the development’s progress, we have officially begun leasing the first phase of 1,600 rental apartments at Barlow Park, which will be available for occupation from February 2024,” said Carel Kleynhans, CEO of Divercity.

Studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments are available, starting at R4,899 per month.

The development will also have uninterrupted power and water supply – a central selling point considering load shedding and Johannesburg’s recent water woes.

Those who rent in the development will have access to a gym, sports facility, recreation centre, coffee shop, clubhouse and more, with all apartments also having free unchapped and unshaped Wi-Fi.

Additionally, the mixed-use area will feature access to several stores, including Checkers, Clicks, Mr Price, PEP Home, and PnP clothing, with a wide array of restaurants in the 5,500 square metre neighbourhood retail centre.

A new Curro High School opening in February 2024 will also anchor the development.

“Barlow Park is redefining urban living by offering affordable rental options without compromising quality or location,” said Kleynhans.
